Maris passed the previous record of 60, held by Babe Ruth, in 1961. 27-year-old Texas Rangers pitcher Jesus Tinoco will forever be a part of baseball history. Tinoco gave up a lead-off home run to open Tuesday night's game against the Yankees. It should be noted Judge had a chance to hit his 62nd home run Wednesday night as well, though he grounded out to short in the eighth inning. Judge was walked 13 times between his 60th and 61st home runs -- only one of the 13 was intentional -- including five times Tuesday and Wednesday alone.
He left the building clutching a baseball worth an estimated $2 million. Sixty-one has also become a magical number in Yankees and baseball lore. Maris hit his 61st homer in 1961 in his 161st game, and Judge broke the record 61 years later in the Yankees' 161st game of the season. Judge is the first American League player to ever hit 62 home runs in a single season. It's the most homers ever hit in one season — outside of MLB's infamous steroid era. While Judge's home run isn't the single-season MLB record, though Roger Maris Jr. and more believe it should be, Cohen believes that its significance to the Yankees and to baseball in general makes it worth the price tag. Judge's historic blast came against Blue Jays lefty reliever Tim Mayza at Rogers Centre in Toronto. This produced high demand in left field at Arlington, Texas, where one fan risked his health for a shot at the ball. As Judge's blast descended, one fan leapt out of his front-row seat, over a railing and into a gap several feet below.

Judge (.311) trails Minnesota Twins utility man Luis Arráez (.315) in batting average by four points. After sitting out three of his last four games, Arráez returned to the Twins' lineup Tuesday night. The Yankees have another seven regular season games remaining after Wednesday, so Judge has a very good opportunity to break the tie with Maris and add to his total.
It was about 11 Central Time when Judge walked out of the ballpark with his wife and family. But the emotions, sentiments and splendor of this night were overflowing everywhere around him. But, throughout his home run chase, he laughed, fans were ducking in and grabbing lobster and sushi every game in between his at-bats. Judge can add to his home run total Tuesday night and in his final game of the regular season, Wednesday afternoon at Texas.
After tying Maris last week, Judge had gone five straight games without a homer, entering play Tuesday night. Judge, who has now hit 10 home runs this September, recently achieved just the ninth 60-homer season in the history of Major League Baseball. As well, No. 61 for Judge breaks his tie with Babe Ruth and now ties him with Maris for the most in a season in Yankees franchise history. The historic moment produced a very valuable souvenir for the lucky fan who was able to snag it, with experts predicting the ball could fetch upwards of $1 million on the memorabilia market.
Stanton was on base twice in the seventh but didn’t collect a hit. Stanton reached on Bo Bichette’s throwing error to start the frame and later walked. New York’s winning streak also is the longest in the majors this season (the Yankees won 13 straight games from Aug. 14 to 27 last year).
He's hit as many as seven home runs in a seven-game span this season. Judge tied Maris' record 61 years later while wearing No. 99. Baseball historian and author Marty Appel said fans could reasonably argue that Judge's 62-plus home runs this season is the more noteworthy achievement. But Judge's achievement may stand as a record only in the hearts and minds of purist baseball fans.
