Make sure you have a nice even coat, but work quickly. Do one side, then the other and then immediately put the screen in a dark area to dry.Set it down horizontally, not vertically. Depending on how thin you put your emulsion on,drying will take 1-3 hours.

Allow the screen to thoroughly dry out by placing it in front of the fan, if in a hurry or propped up somewhere to air dry. Clean remaining materials to avoid a mess or clutter. Step 2: Burn Screen
Exert pressure while you drag the squeegee with a smooth movement. Do this again left to right and up and down over the image. Turn all the lights off in the room except for a lamp with a red or yellow bulb. After washout you can take a towel or soft cloth and give the screen a wipe down before letting it dry.
I used painter’s tape to hold it down and it did fine, but in the future I’ll use the glass tip for every design. Then you expose the screen for 25 minutes. The timing is actually really important, so using a kitchen timer and don’t get distracted. Place a light with a 150 watt lightbulb shining down onto a black matte surface.

Place your transparency on the print side of the screen so that when you look at the ink/squeegee side you can read writing correctly. Put it in the place you need for your print. This should have been worked out before hand. Use a little bit of scotch tape or sellotape to keep it in place.

I have known from experience that if you are using old nylons, the fabric can rip very easily. If the screen doesn’t wash out completely, use dish soap and scrub in dark room, using both hot and cold water in cycles. If the image isn’t completely opaque, use light table to fill in any holes.
Lower power light sources can be used but will affect your exposure time and can be troublesome. We do not recommend using the sun. This is the most basic of screen printings.

If light comes through, it isn't dark enough. Either print another copy and double them up on top of each other, or colour in your paper with a black marker. Print your shape or letters onto a regular piece of paper. You can also print it on transparency paper but that's not necessary until you get to more detailed images. Carefully cut out the image with an Exacto knife. And we found several that will work well as a light source when you are building your own exposure unit.
Place a clean piece of glass over the image to hold it tight against the screen. I've rigged up one of my photography lights to use as my light source. It has a dome thingamabob on it, so this helps focus the light where I want it. If you do not have a dome thingamabob you can either McGyver one out of a tin pie plate, or expose your image for slightly longer. Once the screen has dried you can now transfer the image you want to screen print onto it. THIS is where people usually get stuck because most tutorials recommend you use a lightbox.
But knowing these things, the kids can learn more about the lives of the Native Americans. The kids can get answers to questions like ‘why they didn’t make houses of clay? ’ or ‘why did they eat certain things?

Take note of the time and wait one hour before checking the screen. Set up drop cloth and silkscreen. Using a drop cloth or old newspaper, set up a workspace on the ground against a stable surface such as a wall. Place the screen topside facing out; this is where the emulsion needs to coat the screen.
